Hello Everyone,

On Wednesday, October 30, FOSM volunteers will remove the south half of the old shingle roof on the Yucca picnic area restroom in the Oak Flat Group Reservation Picnic Area in preparation for installing a metal roof on that side. We will install two SRD scaffolds to provide access to the roof, if they are needed.

After the shingles are removed and any damaged plywood sheathing is replaced, volunteers will cover the sheathing with 30-pound felt and screw steel roof panels over the sheathing. The roof materials were purchased about 3 years ago by the SRD, and they were used to put new roofs of two restrooms in Pine Flat Picnic Area. We plan to haul roofing materials and equipment such as a large generator in the SRD horse trailer.

Russ Parker, an experienced roofer, will be working on the roof with one of 4 safety harnesses that FOSM owns. We need a few other volunteers to work on the roof with him. We also need volunteers on the ground to prepare panels and pass them up to the people on the roof. Tools and safety harnesses will be provided.

We especially need volunteers who are willing to be trained to work on roofing projects, because we have 5 other roofs that need replacing.

Meet at 8:30 AM (Note the later time.) at the FOSM Guard Station behind the Sandia Ranger Station.  Wear long pants, long sleeve shirts, and sturdy boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring work gloves and hard hats. If you do not have a hard hat, one will be provided. Bring lunch, snacks, and drinks.
