[Neighbors] Neighborhood Meeting Request for 201 Hermosa NE

All,
Lots of good points being raised. I still have concerns about where people will park. Is there a parking lot next to the site. If so how many cars will it hold. What will the seating capacity be? Are we talking at least 100?.Looking at the plans it seems about that. I don’t believe the 8:00 hour will remain . Is there any set restriction in this zone saying a business can not change their hours. Is this 8;00 hour set and can never change? Whats to say they don’t request a change to 10. A neighborhood bar might sound wonderful but I have serious doubts and think it should be examined carefully. I think those living in the 200 and 300 Blocks of Hermosa NE should be especially concerned.

Having been a Nob Hill biz owner from ‘90-2010 & president of NH Business Association I can attest to the fact that businesses change hrs of operation at their discretion. Given that alcohol is a top money maker it’s tempting to increase hrs. So though they may have initially closed at 8 there is nothing stopping them them from changing there hrs after they open. Sorry. I have seen this too many times. So I take whatever they say with a huge grain of salt. Just being a realistic former biz owner and a 35 yr resident of Nob Hill.

Folks seemingly want to bust out. I live just off Lomas and in 20 years, I’ve never seen it like it has been since early last year. In my careful opinion, it has nothing to do with “drinking places,” most of which were closed for much of last year. High and Dry--this applicant--has had a very respectful presence at their current location in the neighborhood just east of Washington and Lomas for a number of years. This isn’t like downtown and granting licenses to brew pubs is nothing like creating a zone of strip clubs, like we have downtown.

All these drinking places I believe have attracted to the streets of our neighborhood the racing and loud vehicles that care nothing about the people living here. They just zoom up and down our streets at dangerous speeds. It has gotten worse and worse in the near 20 years I have lived here. I see this kind of business not as an asset but a part of the decline of our community. We have now the legal drug trade and the war makers setting up shops here. It seems we are we becoming a neighborhood for bombs, booze and drugs. I say we stop this erosion of our neighborhood.

We are deeply saddened by those that couldn't survive high rents during ART and certainly got destroyed during Covid -19 .

The “available” properties on Central are held by a handful of property moguls who, clearly, have no problem keeping places empty to prop up unsupportable rents in the current economy and especially given what ART has done to destroy Central. I think it’ll be a tough go for them at this location; but see no reason to deny them a use the property is intended for. I’m aware they are a responsible business. I support this application.
