NMDOH Encourages Safe Practices Around Bats During Summer
The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has reported increased reports of people coming into contact with bats this summer, due to high temperatures and lack of water. Bats can have a tendency to fall on the ground from their perches if they don't have sufficient water or shade. Often, they can have rabies as well. The public should NOT touch, feed, or otherwise approach bats, or any wild animals, alive or dead. Report Illegal Fireworks Using ABQ311 App
Illegal fireworks are a serious concern every year around this time, and this year in particular, due to drought conditions. With July 4th coming up, residents are encouraged to report illegal fireworks that they observe around Albuquerque. The quickest and easiest way to report illegal fireworks is through the ABQ311 app. Using the app, or reporting them online, is much faster than calling 311. To download the app, visit: <https://cabq.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b697b563bdb0acc3e117a1409&id=4760bc4625&e=938b234806> cabq.gov/app and to report illegal fireworks online, visit: <https://cabq.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b697b563bdb0acc3e117a1409&id=3c4e2dc399&e=938b234806> cabq.gov/fireworks. You can also call 311 Friday, July 2 through Monday, July 5, 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight to report illegal fireworks, though using the app is strongly encouraged.

Pet Safety On July 4th
Remember that fireworks can be terrifying to your pets on July 4th. Here are some tips for making the holiday more tolerable for your fur babies:

*	Make sure your pets have ID tags and collars, and that they are microchipped with up-to-date chip information.
*	Make certain your yard is secure. Check fences and gates to ensure your furry friends can't escape.
*	Leave pets at home. Don't take them to parties or other community events where there will be firework displays.
*	Keep them in a cool, quiet room in your home.
*	Consider asking your vet for medication to help calm them.
