Folks,
We are gaining support for SJR9 - Independent Redistricting Commission. Please ask your Senators & Representatives to sign on as co-sponsors. They just need to call the Senate Clerk.
A couple of suggested leads: Let The Voters Decide or Restore Trust in the Political System. Of course, you can come up with your own.
So far, we have Senators Figueroa, Jaramillo, Padilla, Stefanics and Sedillo Lopez as well as Representative Cates. It would be nice to thank them.
I am attaching a LWVNM Fact sheet on SJR9 as well as an explanation of what SJR9 will do.
Two major changes from the past.
   - We have left Congressional redistricting with the Legislature. We were told that was a non-starter. SJR9 will create
an Independent Redistricting Commission for the State Senate and House as well as any other state office that
    requires redistricting
    - The previous version of the Joint Resolution was 12 pages long. This on is just 3 and will require enabling legislation.
Here is a link to the actual legislation: Legislation - New Mexico Legislature
Thank you and let Hannah and I know of any feedback you receive, positive or negative.
Dick Mason
