The National Conference of StateLegislators has alerted us that it is time to start planning for the 2030Census. Please join us for a discussion of the 2030 Census
Our presenter will be RobertRhatigan
Robert is the director of UNM'sGeospatial and Population Studies Center and the New Mexico State Demographer,serving as the state's liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2017, GovernorSusana Martinez appointed him as state liaison to the Local Update of CensusAddresses program, and in 2019 Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham appointed him tothe New Mexico 2020 Complete Count Commission. He has served on a NationalAcademies of Sciences working group focused on improving the quality of the2020 Census, and in 2021 he served on the New Mexico Citizen RedistrictingCommittee as an independent voter appointed by the New Mexico State EthicsCommission.
New Mexico has had a constant problemwith some of our communities being undercounted. That has especially true forNative Americans and first generation immigrant families. Undercounting hurtstheir ability to be properly represented. It also can be a detriment toreceiving federal funding. Many federal funds are allocated on the basis ofpopulation
