I've boated and fished the Chama every year since 1989, usually twice a year. The best fishing is when the flow sits at a steady flow for a few weeks, 900cfs is my prefered flow. The worst thing for the fish was in the hieght of the drought the flow was turned off and the game and fish called for salvage. It took about three years for the fishing to come back. Billy Simms works at the Los Ojo hachery, he floats the river and does fish counts. Billy lives and breaths Rio Chama, Simms Cove on El Vado Lake ring a bell. We both agree the fishery is in good health. It's my opinion that the current flow management is best for both the fish and the boating. David Ginsler with Rio Grande Conservency trys to keep the flow over 200 and he keeps a good boatable flow during the week when he can. The 6,000cfs on mothers day three or so years ago helped push some fish down river. That's where the fishing has never been the same after those severe
drought years. Losing all the fish at Los Ojo to wherling disease hasen't helped matters as well. The bottem line is we need snow and water in El Vado Lake.

I am not surprised between the differences between the "what boaters have to say" and "what anglers have to say". I would expect extreme difficulty in working with Trout Unlimited, from my experiences. They seem to have a lot of political clout, and seem to be able to sway land managers and "reclamation specialist" into their way of thinking. It's why the upper stretches of the Chattooga river are still closed, if you have heard of that case.

They definitely cherry picked the comments. There was one person there that mentioned that above 1000 it made for a very fast trip on the wilderness section.
Most of the feedback I received indicated that people wanted more than 1000 on the releases, and I gave them that feedback, along with the feedback that below 800 most private rafters wouldn't go.
