Hi Dana,

Do you have a picture of the boom with the removable section out of the way? I'm having trouble picturing how a 16' cataraft or regular raft would get through it. I take it that if we're planning to bring a raft thorough like we did this spring, we would just need to notify the project office that we would be coming through say sometime Sunday morning and they would either leave it open or have someone stationed there (It's hard to keep a set schedule on a river, especially when the channel is very braided due to a lake). Two booms with offset openings would likely be a more workable solution. Other options would be to move the boom down to the boat ramp or to provide some sort of river access above the boom.

Passing a small kayak or canoe over a cable no more than waist high is a workable option for small craft, but scrambling 20" up a bank with a boat is not a good option.

Thanks,

Tim Scofield

Subject: Log Boom installation at Cochiti Lake

Dear Boaters,

I am writing to inform you of a planned Corps of Engineers action that may affect boating in the upper part of Cochiti Lake. As you may know, there have been issues with debris from the Las Conchas fire impacting recreation on the lake recently. The Corps is also concerned about debris clogging and damaging the dam outlet works. To address this, we are planning to install a floating log boom across the upper part of the lake. This will help keep the rest of the lake clear, but will obstruct passage into Cochiti Lake from upstream.

Please read the attached letter for details. I would appreciate hearing from you if you have any concerns. Also, please let me know of any others who should receive this.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
