[Awclist] FW: Subcommittee Meetings--Secretary's Middle Rio Grande Initiative

I got short notice for this meeting Friday afternoon 1:30-4:30 at Los
Griegos Community Center.

It is a Recreation Sub-Committee meeting. The specific relationship to the
Blue Green Trail Development is not clear to me (at this point) but is
encompassed within.

The documents above list some of the structure and organization of what is
going on so my request at this time is for volunteers to go to this meeting
(I, Celia Southwick, will be there as well as Kelly Gossett and Mike Hayes)
- I have mentioned it to a few others to get a better feel and perspective
for what they are trying to do and how they want or need participation and
in-put.

If a person can not go...the public comment form on a blue trail development
and access points would certainly be an way to give feedback.

Please see Dave Simmons Letter of Invitation (below in this e-mail) to
participate and whatever level you or members of the awc list is interested.

Thanks

Celia Southwick

I will try to report back on what I learn but more is better to digest all
the info and get good perspective on involvement.

You are invited...

On January 5, 2012, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced
the formation of a Secretary's Committee for a Middle Rio Grande
Conservation Initiative. This Committee has been charged with
preparing a plan for enhanced efforts regarding conservation,
education, and recreation in the Middle Rio Grande (from Cochiti to
Elephant Butte). I am working with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife and the
Bureau of Reclamation to facilitate the work of the Secretary's Committee.

Three Subcommittees have been established (to focus on conservation,
recreation, and education in the MRG area). You are
cordially invited to participate in the the Subcommittees. This
email is intended to alert you to the Committee and Subcommittee
process so that you can choose your level of involvement. Depending
on your specific interest area and availability, you may participate
in one, two, or all three of the subcommittees (or not
participate at all). You may participate in person and/or provide
written input to the committee(s).

Several Subcommittee meetings have been scheduled for THIS WEEK and
others will be scheduled soon. The following is summary of the current
     status of Subcommittee meetings:

Conservation Subcommittee: A meeting will be held on Friday, March 9,
at 10:00 a.m. at the Open Space Visitor Center, 6500 Coors Blvd
N.W., in Albuquerque. One (or more) other meetings of the
Conservation Subcommittee will be scheduled as well.

Recreation Subcommittee: A meeting will be held on Friday, March 9, at
1:30 p.m. at the Los Griegos Community Center, 1234 Candelaria
Road N.W., Albuquerque. (A second, follow-up meeting of the
Recreation Subcommittee will be held on March 27, at 6:00 p.m., also
at the Los Griegos Community Center.)

Education Subcommittee: One preliminary meeting has been held and
another meeting will be scheduled soon and held within the next 14 days.

Please feel free to pass on information about these meetings to others
who may be interested in conservation, recreation and education
topics in the Middle Rio Grande.

The Subcommittee co-chairs encourage participants to review the Public
Comment Form found on the project website (and attached
to this email). Please come prepared to provide input/answers to the
  key questions on this form.

Note: The committee/subcommittee meetings will not be the only
opportunities for public input and feedback. In addition to regular
Committee and Subcommittee meetings, it is likely that the Secretary's
Committee will host other public meetings to gather input within
the four-county Middle Rio Grande area (Sandoval, Bernalillo,
Valencia, Socorro). Written input on the Public Comment Forms and/or
other forms of written and oral comments are welcome and will be
accepted at the meetings, via email, and throughout the process of
developing the draft and final Plan.

Further information about the Secretary's MRG Conservation Initiative,
including a calendar for all Committee and Subcommittee
meetings currently scheduled, can be found at the project website:
       www.middleriogrande.com

If you have further questions, please feel free to Committee members
   or myself.

Thanks for your interest and participation!

Dave
