Mary,
For those planning a Grand Canyon trip this year May - 2012 and those in
2013 this might be a good time to check out some of the info available
at this really cool meeting.
Pretty inexpensive weekend and it is near Marble Canyon at the Hatch
Warehouse
Camping in the nearby BLM land w/ overlooks at the rim of the Canyon are
an option
Food is great, informal setting but very well run - tight schedule they
try to adhear to!
Info on the canyon, from various studies, nps folks and guides are a
great intro to people there
programs presented are interesting (I liked day 2 especially) but also
the venders that come, the movies shown, books and more at tables there
are just a way of immersing yourself into many aspects of the Canyon
that surround the trip you plan.
we have gone several years but not the last couple. it is also where I
got involved in the adopt a beach program (many of you helped on this)
that is apparently still on-going. although your trip is not a
commercial one you may run into commercial trips and eventually be able
to talk to the guides on a more personal level as you both vie for
campgrounds at times. It is a nice comraderie.
Hope this helps and if appropriate you may forward to the awc
list....which is how I wrote it up.
thanks - celia
PS be sure to check out the agenda on the attachment!
