Hi Antonia,
I'm sorry to be a complainer, but I think it's justified this time. As you may recall, I protested the results from the Mens 50+ Sunday. The results listed my teammate, David Sammeth, with the win. As great as that would have been, In fact, he flatted twice and was the last finisher of the group. I came to the officiating position at the race and registered my protest. Chris Hereford accompanied me to the registration table where he reviewed his scoring sheet and concurred that the results had been entered wrong. He hand wrote the actual order on the printed results and said they would be corrected officially. The results were posted to USAC without the correction.
I don't want to be Mr. Pain in the Arse off the race course, but the Glorietta results remain incorrect (50+ Women) even after the note from you that they had been resubmitted.
I think it may be safe to say that incorrect result posting has reached a new milestone with the protest being registered in the fifteen minute period, the correction being made locally in real time, but the wrong results still being uploaded to USAC.
If we weren't paying for officiating, there would be nothing to complain about. If we weren't concerned with fair play and individual accomplishment, we would have nothing to complain about. If there weren't racers from New Mexico who rely on what ranking points they can get in New Mexico to get a call up withing view of the start line at Nats, we wouldn't have anything to complain about.
If I hadn't done everything correctly and within the rules to have the results made accurate, I wouldn't have anything to complain about. It does become somewhat onerous however when we have to check the local results and then the nationally posted results because they are different sometimes. That is a serious error. I wonder if it's time for a USAC official to do a scoring audit at one of our races to figure out where the breakdowns are this year.
Is it telling that Chris recorded and submitted results correctly and whoever entered them into a spreadsheet at the race did so incorrectly? The problem in this case may not be the scorer, but someone down the line. Whoever was doing that job Sunday blew it twice by reading the scoring sheet wrong and then failing to make the change after the official corrected it.
Help us Ant-Onia-Wan-Kanobe, you are our only hope.
Kirk Rhinehart
