Heidi,  Oso Corridor is a segment of forest trail on the east side of the Sandias down from the Ski area.  It basically starts at Doc Long camp area and goes uphill (up and down and around) until it joins the Tree Spring trail further up the mountain.  It is a wonderful trail that lends itself to motoring along in a beautiful setting, albeit at some points quite a workout on the climbing direction.  This is the sort of trail that a booby-trap would work well on since most folks are either head-down on the climbing, or moving quickly enough on the downhill that this sort of thing is very easily missed.  This kind of sabotage of the trail system (if it was deliberate, and it sounds like it isn't entirely provable that it was) is extraordinarily dangerous since there is no time to prepare for the impact or even to dodge it.  Over the years I have seen quite a few things that were obviously put in place to hamper, hinder, hurt, or harm the mountain bikers that are using our forest trails legally.  I don't want to classify those who would do such a dangerous and reckless thing, but I seriously doubt it was someone out there on a bicycle.  Just sayin'.

It is always good to hear about these problems, but couldyou be more specific about what the Oso Corredor is and where it islocated?
I do not ride in Albuquerque often any more, and I am unfamiliar with thecommon names used by the majority of riders on this list.
Sorry to bother you for clarification on this location.
Be safe out there!

Cheers,
heidi

Subject: Report of Trap on Oso Corredor

Hey all,

The district received a report of a “booby trap on Oso Corredor thatresulted in a rider injuring their elbow. Apparently it was a “bouldercovered in brush which could be nothing but it also could’ve beenintentionally set.

If possible please distribute to the trail community as a “watchout. There have been instances in the past in which this type of thinghas happened and resulted in a very serious injury. In some cases it’san isolated incident and others it’s an ongoing problem. Either way, please keep a look out for anything and know there are a number ofmethods used in the past so it could take other forms such as wirestretched across trail, etc.

On the law enforcement side, this is a difficult one to deal with unlesscaught in the act but if you see anything suspicious, please let us knowasap.

Thanks,
