The way the trick works is they have a checkmark you have to remove in some
obscure place midway through the registration process. If you don't
uncheck, you'll be signed up for a free trial of the premium Active
services. Since it's free, you don't notice it during the check out
process. A month later, if happen to be monitoring your credit card
transactions, there it is; a charge for $90. Then you have to go through
the hassle of calling and canceling. At least it's not like trying to
cancel your cable TV service; no high pressure sales. I think they're
banking on those people who don't closely monitor their credit card
transactions and don't notice the charge go through.
Sucks we have to do this, but now whenever registering via Active, I keep a
close lookout for that little checkmark for "active advantage free trial".
