Discs vs rim brakes impose entirely different load paths thru spokes. Disc braking all torque originated at hub; same but opposite direction as drive in rear wheel from cogs. Rim braking generates horizontal rear-pointing straight load (for brake pads up at top of wheel) thru spokes into hub - w very little torque. Why front wheels can be radial laced w rim brakes, but rear cannot, nor can disc brake wheels
