A note on the recent snow and the Endless Sky gravel race scheduled for 2/21:
As of 7PM 2/14 there is 3in of snow at my house in the valley. I would imagine that there is quite a bit more on the higher sections of the course. I do not think we are going to get much serious melting until Wednesday, but then it is supposed to be pretty warm and sunny until Sunday. I am thinking that if it looks hopeful, I will drive out to inspect the course on Friday morning, and if it is good, I will go ahead and mark it out. If not, as there is nothing going on in the local cycling scene on the next weekend, and we will postpone until 2/28. At about 10:30AM, Friday 2/19, I will post the decision to via direct email to everyone that has signed up, post it to the bike-racers listserve, and Hawke Races FB page. You can do this in confidence that I am not going to run it unless it the course looks reasonably nice. Not a four-hour slog, stopping to dig clay out of your chainstays with a stick sort of ride. Not going to happen. This is a low-key gravel race, not a CX World Cup. If I had to make a guess at this point, I would put it at about 50%/50% that is will be OK.
To accommodate inspecting/marking the course on Friday, I am going to move the deadline for having our minimum of 10 riders to 8AM Friday 2/19. We have 6 riders already and I do not think this will be an issue, but if you are coming try to sign up by Thursday night.
Thanks
