Dear Racers and Riders,
We are looking forward to you coming to Hillsboro and participating in the
events this weekend. First, the weather is going to be very suitable for
cycling. Sat 19 | Day 70° S 14 mph
Intervals of clouds and sunshine in the morning with more clouds for later
in the day. High near 70F. N winds shifting to S at 10 to 20 mph.
Wind is a New Mexico tradition so we will be able to enjoy some shifting
breezes.
Next, the packet pickup for Saturday will end at 9:40 so the officials and
volunteers can get to their respective next tasks. Please arrive early
enough to collect your number and prepare to ride before 9:40 a.m.
Thirdly, There is *no race day registration *and a late fee is assessed
after tonight (Wednesday). Please go to (https://www.bikereg.com/hillsboro)
to register and invite your fellow cyclists to join in. If you know someone
who would like to ride in Hillsboro and NOT race, the fun ride will
commence at 10:30 (registration is important for all fun ride participants,
as well).
Fourth, after completing the climb to the top of Emory Pass the racing
portion of the day is complete. We admonish you to enjoy the view, descend
slowly, and get back to your home safely. There are many switchbacks and
there can be natural obstructions on the road. Please descend with care. If
you are concerned about the temperature on the descent you will be able to
place a small backpack with additional clothing to wear on the descent in a
car that will be waiting at the top. You will be required to carry your
backpack down with you because the departure of the transport car will be
occupied with other event activities.
Lastly, the award ceremony for all racing groups will be completed at the
top. In collaboration with the Chief Judge (official) the results will be
tabulated and the top three winners of the respective groups will be
celebrated at the top with the beautiful Black Range as a backdrop. You
must be present to receive any prizes.
Look forward to seeing you all this weekend.
Best,
ZiaVelo Cycling
David Rutledge (promoter)
ps. I commented last week about women racers being in their own groups. The
emphasis of that message focused on the fact that women should *not* be
required to race in the same group as men.
