The Women's Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN
<https://www.wecaninternational.org/>) hosted a week-long Global Women's
Assembly for Climate Justice with 1000s of people around the world joining
together virtually. Day 4 (Sept. 28) included powerful presentations
directly addressing COP26.
At minute 10:30 Mary Robinson (former President of Ireland) noted that
we're not on track to reduce emissions, and there are 5 layers of climate
injustice (racial, gender, intergenerational, pathways to development, and
nature). COP26 must ensure that we're on pathways to 1.5 degrees. Before
COP26, we need ambitious NDCs and $100 Billion/year needs to be guaranteed.
At COP26, we need a roadmap for a political process for more ambition
beyond COP26. After COP26, we need a standing agenda item on "Loss and
Damage" and a major increase in $$ to adaptation.
At minute 20:30 Dessima Williams speaks about the most vulnerable, and that
we need action now, not more analysis.
At minute 32:50 Jody Williams talks about actions that are needed at all
times. Without pressure from civil society, governments won't do much.
At minute 47:40 Tzeporah Berman from Canada noted that countries are
responsible for their emissions but not for their production of fossil
fuels. That's why we need a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. Great

I encourage you to listen to the entire 4+ hours but highly recommend the
discussion between minute 10:30 and hour 1:00.
