This is a reminder to join us for the LWVCNM monthly meeting tomorrow. The meeting will be Zoom ONLY. Since it is a panel discussion the meeting may last longer than 1 hour. We WILL NOT be recording this meeting. The Zoom invitation is after the description.

Voter Education, Part One—Mid-Term Elections from the LWVCNM Four Counties’ Perspective Panel Discussion.

As the political landscape heats up on the runup to the mid-term elections, our county clerk offices are focused on one of the most vital functions of our democracy, to administer the safe and fair elections. Voting is essential to a healthy democracy and is protected by the Constitution. The clerk’s role, include protecting the secrecy of the ballot and the purity of elections, is guarding against abuse of the elective franchise, as well as to pursue the efficient administration and conduct of elections (§1-1-1.1 NMSA 1978).

The LWVCNM Voter Education Part One will bring together representatives from our four counties, Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia to share the lessons learned during the primaries and any newly adopted procedures. We will discuss anticipated challenges in the upcoming midterm election and how LWVCNM can help in the upcoming elections.

Due to the size of the panel, we may extend a bit beyond 1 PM to allow ample time for a Q & A. With the heavy pre-election workload at the regional county clerk offices, we deeply appreciate the participation of the four counties our League represents. Watch for Topics announcements with any updates on our panel speakers and Zoom information. The meeting will be Zoom-only.

Panel Members:

Mike Milam – Valencia County Clerk - Clerk Milam was elected in 2020 and took office in 2021. He has been in the public sector for over 30 years as a realtor and property manager.

Candance Teague – Valencia County Elections Administrator since 2013 - A US Navy veteran, Candance moved to Valencia County in 2013 to find a career that would embrace her morals and the Navy core values, "honor, courage and commitment” and allow her to continue to serve her country and community. Elections seemed like the perfect fit.

Nathan Jaramillo – Bernalillo County Elections Administrator - Nathan began in the election field in 2017 as the Bernalillo County Bureau of Elections Administrator. Prior to that, he was in the private sector for seven years utilizing his skill set in refining operational processes for a fortune 500 company.
