*DID YOU KNOW?*
*August 18 marks the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment*,
a historic milestone that prohibited denying citizens the right to vote on
the basis of sex. Ratified in 1920 after decades of activism and advocacy,
the amendment was a major step forward in the struggle for equal voting
rights. As we celebrate this achievement, work to protect and expand access
to the ballot remains a top priority for League.
*August 26 is Women’s Equality Day*, commemorating the certification of the
19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920. The amendment was a major
milestone in the long struggle for women’s voting rights. Women’s Equality
Day is an opportunity to celebrate progress while recognizing the ongoing
work to ensure equal rights and full participation in our democracy for
everyone.
