While we already have several volunteers callers, we are still looking for members to help with calls to candidates, and possible distribution locations for the Voter Guide forthe upcoming general election.  If you can help out with thecandidate or location calls, please let me (Ellen Kelly) know attelbg66 at yahoo.com or 505 440-8931.
We want to give everyone a chance tohelp with these calls, even if you have time to make only a few, since thecalls are at the heart of getting critial candidate information tovoters.  During September, we'll also looking for volunteers foractivities like proof-reading and the all-important distribution of the VoterGuide, so please keep an eye on the Monday "Hot Topics" emailsfor more details about those tasks.

The details:
1. Calls to all candidates to be made aroudAugust 10-12, and fewer follow-up calls a week later

Our experience is that making thefirst calls within a day or two of the invitation emails (plus follow-upcalls to candidates who haven't answered yet), makes it much more likely thatcandidates will participate in the guide.  So starting on or close to August 10,we expect to email individual invitations to 127 candidates in Bernalillo,Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties, seeking their responses for the VoterGuide.  We need volunteers to call all of thecandidates at least once: a minority of them will need follow-upcalls (to be made by the same LWV volunteer) if they haven't responded within aweek.  Callers will get the list of candidates to call no later than a fewdays before August 10, along with a list of the points to cover and an outlineof a script, in case that's helpful.

2.  Calls to locations willing to haveprinted guides on hand for customers and members, probably to be made the lastweek of August and September 1-4.

We expect to distribute approximately 28,000 printedcopies of the Bernalillo/Sandoval guide in early October for the general election, , andabout 3,000 of the Torrance/Valencia guide.  In addition to librariesand community centers, these guides went to about 140 locations in the fourcounties, for distribution to business customers or organization members. We need to call all of them, to see how many they want for the general electionand to get delivery details, like the best delivery times andlocations. Callers will get the list of places to call and any contactinformation we have, along with a list of the points to cover.
