There is a lot of information floating around the community about the ART bus rapid transit project. Some of it is not very valid. I am not an expert on Bus Rapid Transit systems, but a retail expert chosen by Nob Hill Main Street made four recommendations for improving business climate on Central in Nob Hill: calm traffic, widened sidewalks, clean-up the street scape, and create a better mix of retail to restaurants. The ART in Nob Hill is designed to provide the first three. In any case, before you decide if the ART will be good or bad for businesses and the community as a whole, you may want to read the attached letter from the city to al least hear both sides of the argument. The attached letter is long and may require more time than usual to download
One last thought...if businesses struggle to make it on Central, why would we want to keep it the same?

 I share your concerns about the negative impact of ART to the Nob Hill community, residents and business owners alike.  It seems to me that Mayor Berry and the city politicos are simply stuffing this entire project down our throats whether we like/want it or not.  Money can be better spent - KAFB water cleanup for example.  Question is, what can be done?  Is there any organized opposition to this plan which will pressure the politicians where it impacts them the most - that being future political plans?

I have written my concerns about this project. As I have said this is a solution looking for a problem.It will cost millions of Albuquerque citizens dollars and we will not have a better system than we do now. I am truly afraid that Central will become a wasteland during construction. These business scrape by and any decline in commerce can put them under. I have not met many people who favor this project except the Transportation department and our city politicians. The allure of "free" money from the Federal government has drowned out all the critical voices. Who benefits from this? I do not think it is the people who live along or frequent Central Ave. is it too late to stop this? There are so many other things we need to spend public money for.
