I live a block from Carlisle and Central. I AM 100% IN SUPPORT OF THE ART!
It will make way for so much improvement up and down central including
better walkways, slowing traffic on Central and upgraded water/sewage lines
which are in dire need. I have lived in Albuquerque for 45 years and cant
wait for such an improvement to this corridor. My partner and I will both be
taking the public transportation to work daily. That in itself will take two
more cars off the road. Hooray!
I worry about the success of the local businesses in the area. I am a strong
supporter of local business but when I posted on Facebook about being in
support of this project and listed every business that was not, Only one
business answered me with an explanation of why they are concerned. That was
Shade Tree Café... sadly they didnt make it to the beginning of the
project. It seems that it wouldnt have made it anyway and just were against
The ART out of fear. I imagine many are against The ART for the same reason.
I am excited about the chance for businesses to come to Nob Hill and replace
so many of the empty windows. We are losing more businesses daily. I look
forward to a better walking/biking atmosphere and more foot traffic welcomed
to our neighborhood. The city has promised to do as much as possible to
assist the small businesses and the time for construction to work around
normal schedules. I cant think of a better way to bring Albuquerque and our
neighborhood forward and to welcome more customers to the area.
Go Albuquerque!

Kurt,
FYI, I am also in agreement with you. Sadly many of us would like to see the
$ spend more wisely but we are not being heard.

Kurt:
I share your concerns about the negative impact of ART to the Nob Hill
community, residents and business owners alike.? It seems to me that Mayor
Berry and the city politicos are simply stuffing this entire project down
our throats whether we like/want it or not.? Money can be better spent -
KAFB water cleanup for example.?
Question is, what can be done?? Is there any organized opposition to this
plan which will pressure the politicians where it impacts them the most -
that being future political plans?? ?

>Is it a coincidence that we have so many businesses on Central in Nob Hill
and the prospects of the bus rapid transit? I do not think so. I have
attended many meeting and spoke against it. I have written my concerns
about this project. As I have said this is a solution looking for a
problem. It will cost millions of Albuquerque citizens dollars and we will
not have a better system than we do now.
I am truly afraid that Central will become a wasteland during construction.
These business scrape by and any decline in commerce can put them under. I
have not met many people who favor this project except the Transportation
department and our city politicians. The allure of "free"
money from the Federal government has drowned out all the critical voices.
Who benefits from this? I do not think it is the people who live along or
frequent Central Ave. is it too late to stop this? There are so many other
things we need to spend public money for.
