Neighbors -

I wanted to give you a quick update on this morning’s fire at the new Carlisle development.

At about 1:30 this morning AFD received a report of several fires at the condo development under construction at Carlisle & Central. Those of you who saw it know how quickly it became a major fire.

During my briefing with Chief Downey this morning, he reported that they eventually responded with at least 14 apparatus and two full alarms. Firefighters worked for several hours to contain it – and they prevented the fire from spreading to any nearby building, saving Immanuel Pres. Church, two nearby homes and businesses in the block.

Fire crews and investigators will remain on the scene for several days to watch for flareups and conduct an investigation.

This morning I met with utility crews with PNM, NM Gas and Xfinity who got to work restoring utility outages to nearby neighbors. By 9:00 am power and gas had been restored to all residents.

I want to extend a special thanks to Carolyn from Nob Hill Main Street and Adrian from the NH Neighborhood Association who joined me going door-to-door with our local businesses to ensure that they had power and internet access restored so they could open and process credit cards for the busy shopping days ahead. By noon, Xfinity had restored internet to the Nob Hill Shopping Center.

This afternoon, we’ll open two-way traffic on Central (though it will be restricted in front of the Carlisle for several days) to get life as close as back to normal as possible and ensure that shoppers have full access to businesses this busy shopping weekend.

A huge thanks to our Fire & Municipal Development Departments as well as La Montanita Co-Op, Scalos and local neighbors who came out with food and water for firefighters and city staff working to manage the scene this morning — it showed the true character of one of Albuquerque’s best neighborhoods!

If you come home today to find any problems, please contact your utility or 311 so we can help.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving! Be sure you show some support for our local Nob Hill businesses tonight and this weekend so they don’t miss out on sales because of this big event this morning.

Happy Thanksgiving! Pat
