[Neighbors] Windows broken on Central night and racing on Coal/Lead

There was a story on Ch 13 last night about all the business store front windows broken with rocks that were picked up from the landscaping for ART. It seems the criminals who did this should show up on the APD security cams at the intersections. I hope the cams are up there already for things like this.

It makes me wonder just what are those cams being used for, why did we spend money on them for all over town if they are not helping with crime. Albuquerque is the leading city in the country for auto thefts, with 27 vehicles stolen per day here.

We were suppose to get a report on the cams from Councilman Davis but I have not see or heard anything. Has anyone else? What are they doing with these cams?

For example it seems the cams should be useful in stopping some of the break-in and window smashing, and especially the racing on Coal. My wife and I have counted about 20 vehicles running the red lights between Yale/Girard and Washington. And in the last weeks at night about 3 am it seems there is an awful event taking place of terrible high speed racing on this stretch so loud and scary it wakes us up repeatedly.

(And then there are all the emergency vehicles and cops blaring along Coal day and night creating more destruction of our quality of life here in Nob Hill. This will continue after ART because Central will be only one lane in each direction with busses taking up the other lane. This permanent destructive impact was not included in the environmental work up to ART that was sold to the city council and the Feds. Had it been this ART may not have gotten funded.)

It seems the intersection cams should be able to spot and track some of these criminals stealing, breaking in and racing. Tom has mentioned the large number of vehicle crashes at Carlisle and Coal and the city does not seem to do anything about the large increase in crashes and rollovers. They should all be on cam footage and I wonder why it is not being used, collected to help us? I would like to have the url to be able to watch that intersection cam on my home computer too. That should be a right we have with public assets.

We really need to drop the speed on Coal and Lead to 25 mph and put in some big speed bumps like other communities have or some kind of round about obstacles at intersections. This current plan of free racing is not acceptable.

Sincerely,
