*Motorists are Urged to Drive Safely Around School Buses*

Recent school bus tragedies in Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, and
Pennsylvania have left parents without children, and have drastically
changed families, and communities across the country. The National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) urges drivers to please drive safely,
use caution, be aware of your surroundings, and remember these rules about
school bus safety:

· Be alert and slow down when driving in neighborhoods with school
zones

· Watch for kids walking, playing, or assembling near bus stops.
Children running late for the bus may dart into the street without looking.

· Obey school bus laws as well as the flashing signal light system on
all school buses.

· Yellow flashing lights on a bus indicate the bus is preparing to
stop to unload or pick up kids. Slow down and prepare to stop when you see
these lights.

· Red flashing lights (and extended stop arms on some buses) indicate
the bus has stopped and kids are getting on or off. Stop and wait until the
red lights stop flashing and the bus starts to move again before driving
again.

To learn more about school bus safety, visit:
www.nhtsa.gov/school-bus-safety for more information on this very important
safety topic.
