[Neighbors] Lead-Coal Safety: Rest In Red

>From someone who sees the RIR daily,,,, it has helped somewhat in reducing  speeding on Lead and Coal. However, when the RIR is operable, it throws off the synchronization of being able to hit all of the lights on Lead and Coal, while  traveling 30mph. I also noticed that there are more cars going north and south on Carlisle that are running the red-light vs L/C. I witness this on a daily basis from my living room window. In addition, when crossing on Carlisle when the RIR is operating and the light is red in both directions and you are trying to cross the street, you do not know which light is going to turn green, since the crosswalk sign had the orange hand in both directions. I have almost got run over when I stepped into the street and the light changed. It may be a deterrent but some bugs still need to be worked out

Hi Greg;

Just wanted to express how much I like the new rest on red system from a driver’s perspective. Light timing on the old system was terrible and I found myself stopping and waiting for lights all the time. Now I just drive the speed limit and generally there’s little or no wait. The best improvement is going across Lead and Coal. For example going south on Carlisle. But really it’s good all around.

I won’t likely make this meeting as I’ve got prior engagements.

Rest In Red is one of several methods being pursued to achieve a safer Lead-Coal corridor. The NHNA continues to work with the City on these proposals through the Lead-Coal Working Group.
