My observations are much the same as Tom Simic.  RIR eliminates the attempt to set traffic flow based on signal timing.  It is like the concept of group punishment for the wrongs on one person, or speeder.  I find getting to my house takes longer on Coal now due to RIR and yet I see drivers still running the lights, speeding to beat them.  It has done nothing for the problem of the high speed no muffler vehicles and heavy diesel exhaust trucks.  RIR might work on a single lane street but it does not work on a two lane roadway.

I have almost got run over when I stepped into the street and the light changed. It may be a deterrent but some bugs still need to be worked out

Hi Greg;

Just wanted to express how much I like the new rest on red system from a driver’s perspective. Light timing on the old system was terrible and I found myself stopping and waiting for lights all the time. Now I just drive the speed limit and generally there’s little or no wait. The best improvement is going across Lead and Coal. For example going south on Carlisle. But really it’s good all around.

I won’t likely make this meeting as I’ve got prior engagements.

Rest In Red is one of several methods being pursued to achieve a safer Lead-Coal corridor. The NHNA continues to work with the City on these proposals through the Lead-Coal Working Group.
