Friends and Neighbors,
City Councilors get $1.5 million (every two years, I think) to spend on capital improvements in their district.
Councilor Rogers is using a participatory decision-making process for her funding.
The pdf’s above show the 15 idea clusters now under consideration and the many more ideas originally submitted by District 6 residents.
We are not weighing in on these as a neighborhood association.
Rather, we are disseminating the information and urging Hilleños to be involved personally as you can.
The emails below lay out the process ahead.

City Councilor Nichole Rogers' team has provided the following update regarding the participatory budget process. See attached PDFs for reference as well.
Good morning!
Thank you for participating in the first ever Participatory Budgeting Initiative ("PBABQ") in the City of Albuquerque by submitting a project idea to PBABQ/Councilor Rogers' Office to be considered for funding! PBABQ received a total of 243 project idea submissions between October and December 2024 from community members living, working, and/or studying in Albuquerque City Council District 6. 🙏 We appreciate all of the innovative project ideas that were submitted through our online form and we are excited to be moving on to the next phase of our participatory budgeting process, "Project Development."
On January 9th, Councilor Rogers convened a "Project Idea Refinement Event" that included the District 6 Steering Committee for PBABQ, our new Budget Delegates (community member project "leads"), and other PB volunteers to review the 243 project idea submissions that we received. During this Event, everyone involved worked together to identify common themes among projects and to explore opportunities for integrating project ideas.
Out of this process, 15 project idea "clusters" emerged by consolidating/merging numerous like-minded project idea submissions that will move forward for community-wide voting from mid-March to mid-April (specific beginning and ending dates to vote are still being finalized - we will be sure to send a follow up email to you once we have those dates finalized). Though not all projects submitted made it into the 15 project idea clusters, certain elements of many of the submissions were included into one of project idea clusters - please see the list of projects <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13sv896x2i2debPU-GKjxv8GyARo367lzokGEnfto01A/edit?usp=sharing> here.
This list of projects includes a short description of each project (that is currently being developed into longer proposals), along with how each project addressed PBABQ's core evaluation criteria (Need, Impact, 3rd Party Involvement, Community Building, Equity, and Feasibility). If you are interested in seeing the complete list of project ideas that were submitted, you can view them <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SlsBRhbq_lEhP3Lo06PwNJPkDcp5SGD5xEuoL38l-ko/edit?usp=sharing> here. <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SlsBRhbq_lEhP3Lo06PwNJPkDcp5SGD5xEuoL38l-ko/edit?usp=sharing> (Note that community members' names, contact information, etc. that were submitted with each project are not included on this spreadsheet.)
Moving forward, we still need your help to get the word out about getting District 6 community members out to vote for their favorite projects! Our PBABQ team is currently working on a plan for getting the word out about voting and also developing a schedule for hosting a series of Project Expos, Pop Up Voting Events, Street Outreach Voting, and other easily accessible voting opportunities. We will be sure to keep you updated on these voting opportunities once we get them finalized.
In summary, our core PBABQ team would like to thank you for you participation in this participatory budgeting pilot program, because it is already changing the conversation about how the City of Albuquerque involves community members in its budgeting process.
Stay tuned for more and feel free to reach out to me if you have any follow up questions on our path forward!
