The Olga Kern International Piano Competition
<https://olgakerncompetition.org/>, a world-renowned event which takes
place every three years in Albuquerque, is set for next week from Oct. 13
to 19.
The competition, which draws talent from around the world, gives audiences
“an opportunity to see developing world-class pianists at the beginning of
their professional careers.” Participants are between 18 and 32 years of
age.
Olga Kern, the founder of the competition, was born Olga Vladimirovna
Pushechnikova and is originally from Moscow, Russia. She won her first
international competition in Czechoslovakia at age 11. In 2001, she moved
to the US and became a citizen in 2016.
Kern, who lives in New York City, chooses to host her competition in
Albuquerque because of the positive reception she has received in the city.
“I have been here many times and every time I felt very loved,” she states
on her website. “I could not think of a better place for the Olga Kern
International Piano Competition to call home than Albuquerque and New
Mexico.”
The preliminary rounds of the competition take place on Oct. 13 and 14 from
9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Both days are at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church (114
Carlisle Blvd SE <https://maps.app.goo.gl/fkudo8s9DXHNQr2u9>) and are free
to attend. The National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 4th St SW
<https://maps.app.goo.gl/5WmULCVKHkRh8SsR6>) will also share in hosting the
event.
