[NMCCSC] Report of Ski Tour from 10K S TH, Sat., Dec. 14

Hello Skiers,

On Saturday, December 14, 2019, I led a Class I tour with a total of nine Ski Club members in the area south of the 10K South Trailhead. The approximate route is shown as the red line on the Google Earth (GE) satellite photograph on page 1 in the attached Word document. I drew the route on the photograph with a GE tool -- it is not based on GPS data.

From the trailhead, we skied south on a trail groomed by the Sandia Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) and our turn to the north is shown at the bottom of the map. We skied N and NW on the groomed trail to where we entered the forest on Sam's Trail. We continued on this trail to Kerry's Trail parallel to the highway. We then skied generally southeast to the south end of an aspen regeneration project site. After lunch, we skied north on a groomed trail and then south past the weather station in another aspen regeneration area. After skiing this 2-mile route, we retuned to the 10K S Trailhead.

We weather was cloudy, and over much of the route we were in fog. We were on about 16 inches of snow, and the snow conditions were excellent. The Crest Highway was clear and mostly dry.

The Club members on the outing were Michael Arndt, Carol Miller, Anita Grierson, Penina Ballen, Amy and James Mathis, Severin and Garrett Blenkush, and Sam Beard.
