[NMCCSC] Report of tour from Snow Play Area, Mon., Jan. 28

Hello Skiers,

On Monday, January 28, Bet and Steve Gendron, Peter Marks, Carl Smith, and Sam Beard skied three-quarters mile from the Capulin Snow Play Area to the northwest to the Las Huertas Canyon Overlook on former logging roads. Here the canyon is very deep with near-vertical walls.

From the overlook, we skied to the southwest about 0.4 mile to the power line going to the Crest, turned to the east and skied a short distance to a ridge where we ate lunch. After lunch, we skied down a hillside through scattered trees, and turned north on an old road to the power line. After crossing the power line, we bush whacked down to a clearing and followed the power line back to the Snow Play Area.

One objective of this tour was to collect additional information to add to the excellent GPS maps that Bet had drawn in preparation for a tour from 10K North Trailhead through the back country to the Snow Play Area.
