Hello Skiers,

On Friday, March 1, Carl Smith and I skied the western part of Mistletoe Canyon Trail in the Jemez Mountains from near Bennett Lane at the many mail boxes on NM-4 to the intersection with East Fork Ridge Trail. We are planning to lead a Club trip on Mistletoe Canyon Trail later this winter.

As the attached Word document of photos shows, we found good snow cover on the north-facing slopes and bare spots on the south-facing slopes. We found no trees down across the trail.

Earlier we learned that the eastern part of the trail was not skiable due to the road that had been plowed in the area where the forest had been thinned. Also, the middle part of the trail with the large meadow and descent through the narrow canyon had good snow conditions.

We are looking forward to scheduling an outing in this area.

Sam and Carl
