[NMCCSC] Great tele clinic!

Amy, James, Marlene, Danielle, Kathy and Gerry,

You guys are too nice! Learning to Tele is a lifeline pursuit, requiring a lot of commitment. Tele reminds me of windsurfing, another sport for the dedicated and determined. To complicate matters, there are so many shades of gray for the 'correct' way to Tele. Seems like I relearn the Telemark turn about every five years. Hopefully everyone learned a few things to lessen the frustration and reduce the number of tumbles.

What a great day yesterday!!  Thanks so much to Barry who spent nearly all day helping us students with tele technique.  It was priceless and I dare say we all have a lot of different things to focus on depending on where we are all at individually.  That was the beauty of small, personalized instruction.  James and I made the commitment this year to ditch alpine for tele.  I find the technique beautiful and guess what?  I don’t have much to unlearn as I was never a great alpine skier to begin with!  I still remember the day a year ago that I rented a kit from KAFB rec center.  I clumsily put on the skins and skinned up a short way of the beginner area at Sandia.  I tried over and over again and just couldn’t figure out that illusive turn.  I spent that afternoon putting on and taking off the skins trying and trying to teach myself tele.  Tears of frustration and exhaustion set in as I called it a day.  I’m not one to give up so the next time I rented them I got a lift ticket so that I could solely focus on technique.  Things began to click and I started to feel the flow and beauty that is tele.  I’ve come a long way since that day of frustration, but I still have a long way to go!  I’m thankful that I have some new tools to use to help my crappy right turn!  Thanks Barry!  Would love to see you rip up moguls some time!
