The Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM) led a trail crew up to continue
work on the Cienega/Armijo Trails Improvement Project (CATIP). The crew
completed the connections of Reroute TC03 to Madera Locura and a new
connection to Elk Track. This is a big milestone: the CATIP trail network
now has sustainable trail connections to Faulty and Canoncito trails
providing access to trail loops in CATIP. The CATIP creeps up to *72%*
*complete*.
A crew of eleven volunteers showed up for the trail session: Jim Houle,
Lorna Morrow, Sim Cook, Eric Russell, Byron Garner, Cleve Sharp, Mark
Grazier, Pat and Mike Madden, and Betsy and Bob Galloway. The crew was
supervised by Russell Berman, Cibola National Forest and National
Grasslands Resource Assistant, Trails.
On the hike in, the crew continued the process of shuttling trail signs to
the appropriate intersections for an upcoming sign planting project in
September.
The crew sat down for lunch before starting a shorter reroute further down
the trail. But dark clouds started building up and when thunder became
louder, the decision was made to quickly get off the mountain. We know the
task for next week.
