This week the Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM) trail crew was back
working on the Cienega/Armijo Trails Improvement Project (CATIP). The trail
session had three separate tasks: 1) reroute an unsustainable section on
upper Madera Locura; 2) start cutting tread on TC04 (the future Vista
Trail); and 3) work on obliterating the old user trail bypassed by the
completed Madera Locura Trail.

A crew of eleven volunteers participated in the trail session: Jim Houle,
Lorna Morrow, Byron Garner, Mark Grazier, Jeff Huser, Sim Cook, Jenny
Blackmore, Bruce Hansche, Don Carnicom, and Betsy and Bob Galloway. The
crew was directed by Russell Berman, Cibola National Forest and National
Grasslands Resource Assistant, Trails.

The day started out cool with a touch of fall in the air but warmed to the
mid-80s. The reroutes were in partially shaded locations but the trail
obliteration task on the way back was over a ridge treated by mastication
so we were in mostly full sun and it was pretty warm.
