August temperatures are still hitting the 90s at 7000 feet elevation.
Luckily. the FOSM trail crew was able to go back up to the 10k North Trail for
more finish work on the new reroute. The 10k North Trail is one of the most
popular on the Sandia Ranger District (SRD) and seeing how the trail was
wearing in helped guide where repairs were needed. In addition to the usual
tasks of grooming backslope, leveling tread, and opening drainages, some
limestone ledges narrowing the trail were cut back or removed.
The smaller volunteer crew today were Lorna Morrow, Mark Grazier, Sim
Cook, Eric Russell, Jeff Huser, Rav and Ken Nicholson, Pat and Mike Madden,
and Betsy and Bob Galloway. However, we were strongly reinforced by the SRD
seasonal trail crew of Augie Quintana, and Joseph Jaffa-Martinez under
leader Canyon Young, and Jessica White, Trails and Wilderness Program
Manager.

Fun day high up on the mountain in nice weather but things are pretty dry
up there. Deer and fox were spotted and the turkeys appear to be avid users
of the reroute.
