Hello Everyone:
Yesterday, Monday, July 15, 2019, the FOSM Trails Crew returned to Faulty Trail to complete the removal of problem trees, which due to time constraints, could not be finished on last Monday's project. Last week, the crew finished the section of Faulty from the Armijo Trail junction, south to about Cole Spring. Yesterday, the crew removed a total of nine trees ranging in size from four to eighteen inches in diameter from the remaining portions of both Lower and Upper Faulty trails. Seven were removed from Lower Faulty and two from Upper Faulty. Crosscut saws and other hand tools were used for this work. Loppers were used to prune back some encroaching oak shrubs.
Although FOSM member David McCreery participated in last week's hike, he was unable to do so yesterday. Instead, he volunteered to hike the remaining uncovered trail sections and provide a report of his findings to the crew. He did that this weekend. His CTR report included descriptions, locations and photos of the trees that still needed attention. This was most helpful in getting the job done. (Thanks Dave!)
Unless some problem has since developed since our two hikes, the crew can announce that the following trails and trail sections are now clear of obstacles; Crest Trail 130 from the Canyon Estates trailhead to the Lower Faulty junction, Upper Faulty Trail, Lower Faulty Trail from its junction with Crest Trail 130 north to its junction with Armijo Trail, Armijo Trail and Acequia Trail from its junction with Armijo north to the Cienega Canyon PA road.
Yesterday's weather was mostly clear with an occasional small cloud providing some brief and welcome shade. The temperatures ranged from warm in the morning to hot in the afternoon. The trail surfaces ranged from dusty to muddy depending on where the recent scattered rains fell. Of course the most common trail surface on most of these trails is rocks.
Yesterday's crew consisted of Jerry Pekarek, Rav Nicholson, Byron Garner, Jim Levesque, Sim Cook, Phil Cromer and Bob Lowder.
Please see attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Bob Lowder.
