Hello Everyone:

Yesterday, Monday, June 17, 2019, the FOSM Trails Crew hiked 10K North trail to the Ellis Trail junction, Ellis south to Challenge Trail and down Challenge back to the 10K parking lot. The crew removed a total of 53 trees ranging from 3 to 21 inches in diameter. The crew encountered some massive train wrecks made up of multiple large fallen trees and associated debris that sometimes made it difficult to determine just exaclty where the trail was located until some of the mess was cleared away. As has been prior experience this year, the proportion of large trees which have fallen is much higher than usual. Chainsaws, crosscut saws and other hand tools were used for this work. Due to the number of voluteers present and available equipment, it was possible to divide the crew into two teams which "leap-frogged" each other along the trail to do work. These trail sections are all now clear.

The day began cool and mostly clear, warming toward mid-day after which clouds began to move in bringing cooler temperatures and a welcome breeze. Forunately, the hike was concluded before the rain showers began.

Yesterday's crew consisted of Sim Cook, Jim Levesque, Bill Savage, Jerry Pekarek, Bet Gendron, Byron Garner, Sam Beard, Cleve Sharp and Bob Lowder.

Please see attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Bill Savage and Cleve Sharp.
