A group of volunteers lead by the Friends of the Sandia Mountains (FOSM)
continued work on a new reroute in the Cienega/Armijo Trail Improvement
Project (CATIP).

Before leaving the Sandia Ranger Station, Jessica White, acting Trails and
Wilderness Program Manager, briefed the crew on the latest guidance for
trail building to be in compliance with a recent court order. Much of the
trail corridor was already cut and the crew progressed onto a ridge with
much less vegetation. Any sapling removal or tree pruning in the trail
corridor needed up on the ridge is pending further clarification of the
court order.

The crew of 10 volunteers completed approximately 1/10 mile of new trail.
>From working in very steep side slope, we transitioned to building trail in
very rocky terrain along the ridge line. Once two reroutes are complete in
this area, we'll move east to reroutes closer to the forest boundary.

The crew today were Jenny Blackmore, Bruce Hansche, Mike Madden, Byron
Garner, Phil Cromer, Walt Wapman, Eric Russell, Sim Cook, and Betsy and Bob
Galloway.
