Hello Everyone:

Yesterday, Monday, July 6, 2020, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked north on Ellis trail, up Osha Loop to the Survey Extension and then south on Survey back to the Ellis trailhead.

Two small trees were removed. The first was a five-inch diameter dead fir which had fallen across Ellis. The top had broken and was off the trail. Although one could walk past the tree, the remaining section was suspended in the air and ended right at the trail margin. The tree was cut back for safety purposes. The second was a new unreported seven-inch diameter dead leaner that had fallen across the Survey Extension at head height. It was removed. As of Monday afternoon, these trail sections were clear.

The day was clear, cool in the morning and warming considerably by mid-day. The vegetation at this altitude appeared healthy in shaded areas, but was showing the stress of dryness in sunny sections. The Sandias could use some serious rainfall.

Yesterday's crew consisted of Jerry Pekarek, Rav Nicholson, David McCreery, Byron Garner and Bob Lowder,

Bob L.
