Hello Everyone,
On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, eight FOSM volunteers felled a total of 35 hazard trees in Doc Long Picnic Area, mostly along the old paved road and near Shelter B.
In the upper segment, Dan Benton’s team felled nine trees with diameters of 6 inches to 10 inches. In the middle segment, Jerry Carroll’s team felled eleven trees with diameters of 5 inches to 13 inches. In the lower segment Dennis Crowther’s and Sam Beard’s team felled fifteen trees with diameters of 6 inches to 10 inches. Most of the hazard trees were Gambel Oaks with dead tops that were growing in dense groves.
The trunks were bucked to lengths of 4 to 8 feet and stacked as firewood. The slash (branches) was piled along the road to be chipped later.
The hard working volunteers in hot conditions were Jim Levesque, Cliff Giles, Sim Cook, Dennis Crowther, Dan Benton, Jerry Carroll, and Sam Beard. Lou Romero was scouting the hazard trees in Sulphur and Cienega PAs that will be felled later.
Photos are presented in the attached Word document.
Next Wednesday, we will be felling hazard trees in the Capulin PA and Capulin Snow Play Area at an elevation of about 9000 feet where the weather will cooler.
