[Volunteers_fosm] FOSM Trails Crew Maintenance Report For Monday, June 29, 2020

Hello Everyone:

After a long hiatus, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew returned to its work yesterday. Things were a bit different due to USFS COVID-19 protocols but all needed tasks were still done but with additional safety practices this time.

A total of seven trees were removed, ranging in size from five to eighteen inches in diameter as follows; three from Crest Trail 130 South, two from Gravel Pit Trail, one from Rocky Point and one from Upper Switchback. As usual, fallen branches or parts of small fallen trees were removed from the trails as needed. Based upon previous reports and observations of the crew on Monday, it can be assumed that all the above trails are now clear. The crew also hiked up Buried Cable and it too was clear.

It was a beautiful day on the mountain with a cool, crisp morning that, as is usual for this time of year, warmed up as the day went on. It was a bit windy at the Crest, but less so down in the forest. As others have reported, by the afternoon, the mountain gets quite busy.

Due to COVID group size restrictions, the crew was divided into two teams. Crew #1 consisted of Bob Lowder, Rav Nicholson, Byron Garner and Sim Cook. Team #2 was made up of Jim Levesque, Cleve Sharp, David McCreery and Jerry Pekarek.
