Hello Everyone,

Although we are now permitted to thin in the Cedro CFRP area, the ground may be too wet to drive and work there; so we will replace broken fence poles in Cienega PA on Wednesday, November 4, and if we have time, try splitting some of the large dead oak that we felled in the group area a few weeks ago. Please come prepared to replace poles and split wood.

We will be removing rusty one-half inch threaded rods, nuts, and washers from broken poles and replacing them with the new poles. I know about two broken poles at the second restroom that we will replace.

Bring battery-powered reciprocating saws with steel-cutting blades and battery-powered drills. Also, bring wrenches, socket sets, large chisels, hammers, and carpentry tools. Pruning saws will also be handy for cutting notches in the posts and poles.

We need a pickup to haul several 10-foot 4-inch treated poles from Don Carnicom’s house to the picnic areas.

The crew will be divided into teams of 5 or fewer volunteers each.

We will meet at 8 AM at the FOSM Guard Station behind the Ranger Station to collect equipment and supplies and present the JHA (Job Hazard Analysis).

Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, and sturdy boots with slip-resistant soles. Bring a face mask, lunch, snacks, lots of water, hard hat, eye and ear protection, and work gloves. If you do not have a hard hat, one will be provided. We will travel to the work site with just one person in each vehicle unless some volunteers are in the same family.

Also, bring a warm jacket, because the mornings are especially cool at the Guard Station.

If you have questions, please email me (do not reply to this message) at samgbeard at msn.com.
