Hello Everyone,
This email contains the Paint Crew report for work on Tues. Sept. 29, and the report of the hazard tree felling in Cienega PA on Wed., Sept. 30.
1. Paint Crew Report -- At the request of the SRD, on Tuesday 9/29 the FOSM paint crew started striping the parking lot at Sandia Crest. This is a heavy use area and requires yearly attention. Manny's maintenance crew closed off the lot so we were able to get the upper lot striped and dried before the arrival of visitors. We moved to the middle lot and prepped and striped 21 spaces. By lunch time the south end of lot was filling fast so we packed up and returned to the SRD to put up our equipment. Many hikers and several out of state visitors were enjoying our beautiful mountain. Painters were Jane Harrison, Rikki Barrett, and Ellie & Russ Parker. We saw several groups of bucks and does on the way up as well as turkey. (Ellie Parker)
1. Report of Felling Hazard Trees in Cienega Canyon Picnic Area – On Wednesday, Sept. 30, thirteen volunteers felled a total of 44 hazard trees in Cienega PA. Diameters ranged from 3 inches to 28 inches. Most of the trees were along both sides of the picnic area road, but the two largest trees. 22 inches and 28 inches, were in the group area. The volunteers, who worked in three teams, were Cliff Giles, Sam Beard, Sim Cook, Dennis Crowther, Bill Savage, Sally Lowder, Bob Lowder, Eric Russell, Lou Romero, Jerry Pekarek, Byron Garner, Jerry Carroll, and Michael Arndt.
