[Volunteers_fosm] Reports on paint project and fence maintenance, 10/20 and 10/21

Hello All,

This email reports the activities of the FOSM paint crew on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and the fence maintenance crew on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020.


  1.  Paint Project – On Tuesday, Oct. 20, four paint crew members painted a total of 142 stripes in the Capulin Snow Play Area parking lots. In addition to the white parking stripes, they marked handicapped spaces with blue paint, and marked pedestrian access spaces with yellow striping. Manny Chavez and Adriana, SRD employees, used the SRD blower to remove gravel and dirt from the areas to be painted. Manny also served cake and ice cream at lunch that was provided by Chris Baca, Recreation Supervisor.



The volunteers were Anne Hickman, Sam Beard, Rikki Barrett, and Jane Harrison. Photos are presented In the attached Word document.


  1.  Fence Maintenance Project – Seven volunteers replaced 12 broken fence poles in Doc Long PA (4 poles), Sulphur Canyon PA (5 poles), and Cienega Canyon PA (3 poles). We installed 10-foot long pressure-treated poles purchased by FOSM as a special order from Hunter Bower Lumber Company. The total cost for the 50 poles was about $1200. The tasks included removing old rusty one-half inch threaded steel rods with wrenches or by cutting with FOSM’s new battery-powered reciprocating saw. Holes were then drilled through the poles and posts, and new threaded rods were secured with washers and nuts.

The volunteers were Dennis Crowther, Jerry Pekarek, Eric Russell, Sim Cook, Jerry Carroll, Don Carnicom, and Sam Beard. Photos are presented the attached Word document.
