Hello Everyone,
On Wednesday, Oct. 6, FOSM volunteers will work on two tasks at Capulin PA:
1. Cutting brush at the entrance for better sight distances up and down the highway. The locust brush here is large enough to cut with chain saws, and we will pile or scatter the slash.
2. Go down to the lower picnic area near the Bird Log to limb and buck two large hazard trees that were felled earlier this year. We will split and haul them later.
3.
Meet at the FOSM Guard Station at 8 am.
Wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Bring a jacket in the event that the weather is cool. Bring lunch, snacks, drinks, eye and ear protection, and a hard hat. If you do not have a hard hat, one will be provided. Wear boots with slip-resistant soles. Sawyers are required to wear 8-inch high boots.
Bring your chain saw and use it, if you are a certified sawyer. If you are a trainee and have had the safety class for chain saw use, you may practice in the presence of a B sawyer. Kerry is field certifying chain sawyers later this month, and it would be helpful for saw students who have had the safety class to have at least a little experience with a B sawyer. Email me if you have questions.
We have been working with Michael Arndt, Byron Garner, and Steve Roholt so that they have experience before certification. All of these trainees have at least some experience felling and bucking. Felling especially requires some practice.
