Hello Everyone:
Yesterday, Monday, September 13, 2021, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked 10K South Trail, Crest Trail 130 to the 130/Pino/Cienega Canyon trails junction and down Cienega Canyon Trail. By day's end, the crew had removed a total of nine trees ranging in size from three to fourteen inches in diameter that were either fallen, hung-up or otherwise causing a hazard. Minor trail maintenance, such as cutting back brush or intruding branches was performed as needed and time allowed. Crosscut saws and other hand tools were used for this work. There was evidence on sections of these trails of the effects of heavy summer rains, particularly on Cienega Canyon Trail which follows the drainage downhill in the bottom of the canyon and is badly eroded in places. The foliage is still green but the arrival of fall is evident particularly at the higher elevations.
The day started out cool but warmed quickly as the day went on and altitude decreased. Until the end of the hike, there was very little, if any, breeze.
Please see the attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Bill Savage, Cleve Sharp and Bob Lowder.
