Hello Everyone:
Yesterday, September 26, 2022, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked Survey, a portion of 10K North and Ellis Trails to remove previously reported problem trees and to do whatever other work was required. By day's end the crew had removed nine hang-ups, leaners or parts thereof, ranging in size from four to sixteen inches in diameter. Other related trail work, such as removal of various hazards or tread repair, was also completed. A few high and very well supported hang-ups that did not pose a present danger to users, were deferred. They will be monitored and can be removed later if their status changes. Crosscut-type saws and other hand tools were used for this work.
The morning was clear, sunny and brisk. Breezes were light, if at all. Clouds began to build in the afternoon. Far off thunder hastened the pace as the crew returned via Ellis Trail. Only a few tiny hailstones and what can only be described as "almost rain" was all that came from the sky. On the trip down the highway it became apparent that some of the lower portions of the mountain looked like the showers were a bit heavier there. Overall, it seems that autumn has arrived in the Sandias.
Yesterday's crew consisted of Jerry Pekarek, Jamey Browning, Cleve Sharp. Paul Karas and Bob Lowder.
Please see attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos by Jamey Browning and Cleve Sharp.
Thanks,
Bob L.
