[Volunteers_fosm] Trail Maintenance Report For Monday, May 8, 2023

Hello Everyone:

Yesterday, Monday, May 8, 2023, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked Tecolote Trail to remove a previously reported 9" diameter tree which had fallen across the trail. Tecolote is one of the trails that has been adopted by FOSM. As is so often the case, we found four other trees that needed be be removed as well as needed remediation for a washed-out water bar in the trail not far above the parking lot. The additional trees, of which two were also 9" in diameter, one of 6" in diameter and a 4" leaner were not blocking the trail, but they presented possible current or future hazards to users.

Tecolote Trail is now clear along its entire length. It was apparent that someone, probably the USFS crew, had used a brush cutter to clear away all the oak brush that tends to grow into some of the upper sections of the trail. It looks great and hopefully will keep the brush under control for a while. It was noted that the illegal bike trail that started at the top of the Tecolote loop and had been obliterated last year by a USFS and volunteer crew, still appeared to be closed. We experienced ideal hiking weather with cool morning temperatures, light breezes and warm sun as the morning progressed.
