Hello Everyone:
This past Monday, March 4, 2024, the FOSM Trails Maintenance Crew hiked Bill Spring Trail, a short section of Oso Corredor Trail, Faulty Trail from Bill Spring to Sulphur Canyon Trail, and Sulphur to the Crossover Trail back to Doc Long where the hike started. By day's end, the crew had removed about ten trees or portions thereof, ranging in size from three to fifteen inches in diameter (or up to 22 inches in diameter to include the chainsaw tree.). There was also considerable work done involving removal of broken/fallen branches, widow-makers, small leaners, hang-ups and other maintenance stuff. The weather was just about ideal for hiking with cool temperatures but warm sunny areas where the forest was less thick. There was a wide range of trail conditions. There were few spots that could be described as dry. By far the most common condition was packed snow which varied from wet slush to hard packed ice. There were some muddy spots, particularly along some of the snow packed margins. Basically, one should expect to find typical early spring conditions on the mountain.
Monday's FOSM crew consisted of Byron Garner, Jamey Browning, Ken Wilson, John Cooper, Bill Perkins, David McCreery, Paul Karas and Bob Lowder. We welcomed the participation of Jennifer Medina-Gray and Dorothy Hendrix of the Sandia Ranger District Trails Crew.
Please see the attached Word document for photos and additional narrative. All photos were by Bob Lowder, Ken Wilson, Paul Karas and Jamey Browning.
Thanks,
Bob L.
