Congratulations to Mike Madden and his team of two dozen volunteers for pulling off a very successful 21st Sandia Snowshoe Classic event despite very challenging weather conditions. Some statistics included by Mike in his thank-you note to the team:
Once again, due to each and every one of your efforts, we were able to run a successful event! We had enthusiastic participation from racers:
· We reached our 175 online registration limit!
· We had more women than men! (54% female, 46% male)
· We had 155 check-in at the event! (20 no-shows is not bad for a 0 degree wind chill day)
· Ages ranged from 14 to 79
· 10 racers came from out-of-state! (5 CO, 1 AZ, 1 CA, 1 WI, 1 NJ, 1 MD)
· Winning time: 25:19
· Last finisher: 1:34:23
· 150 finished, no injuries
· Volunteer participation was equally enthusiastic:
We had 24 FOSM, 10 Cottonwood Classical Prep students & 2 faculty, 30 Cibola SAR, 3 BernCo Sheriff SAR, and 1 BernCo EMT unit. New this year - 3 BernCo Sheriff SAR swept the course on snowshoes!
Mike gave special thanks to his Race Committee: Silke Bletzer, Jeff Huser, Jamey Browning, and Jeff Young.
Job well done to all involved. Everyone else can vicariously enjoy the event in the warmth of your home by clicking here<https://friendsofthesandias.org/snowshoe-race/>.
